character info

we'll kick it when i hit the ground

When one of blackened luck is born, another shall be found. They of lightened luck when met will turn all luck around. So shall the dark and miserable seek the one who is their mirror. When together luck will reach its peak and harmony comes clear. Until that time the curse will be that everything go wrong for the child who seeks the one described within this song.

Though luck be black and life be hard, they find the experience fine. For everyone they meet, at first, willing lends their time. And for the one the child seeks a boon of sorts is given: they want for nothing in their life for all is freely given. In return the price shall be that friends are hard to find for when your luck exceeds your being, others know not their mind. So careful must they be to keep in constant motion and whenever the situation turns, move across the ocean.

character information
NAME Esfir [Carpenter]AGE 28EYES Gold
SPECIES Anifeliad (Cat)HEIGHT 5'0" (152cm)HAIR Black/Silver
GENDER Female [she/her]WEIGHT 110lb (50kg)SEXUALITY Lesbian

Esfir was born in the Great Forest of Vostok to a community of elves with a long history of good relations with anifeliad. Esfir was an unsual single-birth child who was doted on by her other siblings and her parents. Unlike her older siblings, who took after their father and went into carpentry, Esfir was always more interested in the bounty of nature. She trained for almost 10 years as an apothecary and mage before disaster struck on her 18th birthday.

Although she recieved training for her innate magic, Esfir has never been able to control it very well and her lack of control resulted in a large portion of the forest being set on fire. It was then "suggested" that Esfir might be better off finding training for her talents elsewhere. Essentially thrown out of the only home she had ever known, Esfir travelled across several continents before meeting up with a band of travelers and being pulled into the service of a roaming academy.

personality

Despite being kicked out of her homeland, Esfir has maintained a friendly and open personality. She loves meeting new people, and new people love meeting herβ€”at first. Born under a prophecy about two people, one lucky and one unlucky, Esfir's boon is low-level mesmer that makes people want to befriend her. Whether or not they stick around once her unlucky nature reveals itself is another matter entirely.

Raised around elves and anifeliad, Esfir has very little understanding of sarcasm, humans, or money. The elves of Esfir's homeland are primarily a trade-based people that live in isolation, so until she left the Great Forest, Esfir had almost no contact with these things. She believes that a human's size directly correlates to how good they are at magic (smaller humans are better at magic than larger humans) and cannot determine human ages at all. Unless told otherwise, Esfir assumes all humans she meets are adults.

Friendly to a fault, Esfir is always ready to believe what people she considers to be her friends say. You can tell her anything and she'll simply believe it, not because she's naive, exactly, but more because the culture she comes from doesn't have a concept of lying so Esfir has almost no experience trying to determine what is or isn't a lie. She will be upset if people lie to her and she finds out later, because truth is extremely important to her.

powers & abilities
πŸ™“ BAD LUCK: Whether it's a skill or a curse depends on who you ask, but Esfir has a volatile relationship with luck. Her luck is, on the whole, bad enough that it got her cast out of her homeland and makes her hesitant to do magic of any sort. More recently, through the use of a specifically enchanted ring, Esfir has gained a small amount of control over her luck.

πŸ™“ STAVES: Although Esfir prefers not to fight in the first place, she is proficient in staff-type weapons. Her specialty is the bo, but she can use most weapons that are similar, including polearms, without much trouble. Or just a long stick.

πŸ™“ FIRE MAGIC: Although Esfir has control over fire, she rarely uses this ability in combat. Effectively, if a firebender from ATLA can do it then Esfir can also theoretically do it. Key word: theoretically. The fire within Esfir also offers her an innate protection against all non-magical forms of heat and fire.

πŸ™“ DEATHCLAW: Made of Mithril, "Deathclaw" is a weapon that very much looks like useless jewelry. In fact, it's based off of a bracelet design that Esfir regularly wears to formal functions but with razor-sharp edges that can be tipped in deadly poisons to make Esfir a menace in hand-to-hand combat.

πŸ™“ MESMER: Esfir can transfer the fire within her to other people, with varying amounts of success, and it functions much like a vampire's mesmer. Naturally, this ability makes people want to befriend her. She can also use the ability intentionally with more varied effects. This comes in two forms: Esfir can make mild suggestions to people and she can look into their eyes and ask what their deepest desires are. At greater cost to herself, Esfir can also charm a crowd of people.

πŸ™“ FOREST FRIENDS: Esfir can speak with most animals thanks to her Elven upringing. Mindless beasts are not included in this ability, but any beast that can think is a beast that Esfir can communicate with if she chooses to. Her specialty is cats, for obvious reasons.

πŸ™“ PLANT WHISPERER: Also due to her elven upbringing, Esfir maintains a deep connection with nature. This connection grants her the ability to speak with plants and figure out their wants and needs, allowing her to appear like she has superior gardening abilities. She does not. She is cheating.

πŸ™“ CUNNING LINGUIST: Because she's traveled through much of Hollti, Esfir has picked up several languages. Her native Gariadstongue (Russian) is the only language she knows how to read, but she also speaks Cadarnstongue (Swedish) and Gwyrstongue (English/Common).

πŸ™“ APOTHECARY: Before she was chased out of her homeland, Esfir was in training to be an apothecary. While she's well-versed in healing remedies and medicines, Esfir's real interests lie in personal care products such as shampoo and lotion. She owns an etablishment that resembles Lush.

πŸ™“ METALLURGY: Because of the fire within her, Esfir can forge jewelry without special tools. She mostly makes simple rings and hair ornaments, but she's been known to make more complicated jewelry when the mood strikes her. She does not know how to make weaponry.

first impressions
πŸ™“ VISUAL: Much like a cat, Esfir is small and lithe. She takes cues from her animal ancestor in her cat ears and tail, as well as her claws. Both her very long hair and tail are tipped in silver, and her hair is often elaborately braided to keep it out of her way while she's working.

πŸ™“ FASHION: Because she grew up in the Great Forest of Vostok with elves, Esfir prefers earth tones. She likes green and black, although she has been known to wear purple for fancy events. Esfir always wears a fairly obscene amount of rings or Deathclaw and sometimes braids rings into her hair as well. These rings are mostly plain silver with patterning, rather than bejeweled.

πŸ™“ DEMEANOUR: Although cats have a reputation for being stand-offish, Esfir is about as friendly and open as can be. Esfir is easy with physical affection and loves hugs, even to total strangers. She can get defensive and spooks easily when put into situations she finds uncomfortable, however.

πŸ™“ SOUND: Something like Jodie Comer as Villanelle. Esfir has a fairly noticable (fantasy) Russian accent in all of the languages she speaks, but is genuinely friendly and emotive when speaking. She doesn't know what sarcasm or ulterior motives are.

πŸ™“ SCENT: Past the perfumed personal grooming products that Esfir uses, mostly in pleasant woodsy scents (think patchouli), she almost always smells smoky. Like she's spent a lot of time near a campfire recently.

world information

Though they live on different continents, the people of Hollti see themselves as one people thanks to their common history and belief in the Five. Once, many years ago, their five continents were a single landmass before the god Mydoedd sacrificed themself to divide the land and purge it of evil. The Five then each laid claim to a continent and bore a race of creatures unique to them. There is, however, a sixth race. Created of emotion and nature, the anifeliad take the form of something between animals and humans. They make their homes anywhere they can, living among the other races as friend and family alike.

the continents
πŸ™“ VOSTOK: A temperate and wet place, Vostok is the home of the Wood Elves. It is home to many ancient things and secrets, all watched over by the god Gariad. The people of Vostok (including Esfir) are somewhat secretive about their homeland, but not necesscarily stand-offish.

πŸ™“ ZUUD: The southernmost continent, Zuud, is where Esfir spent several years gaining control of her fire abilities. Almost unbearably hot and mostly desertβ€”although Esfir hardly noticed thatβ€”it's the home of orcs and watched over by the god Cadarn.

πŸ™“ KYUR: The smallest continent, Kyur is the heart of Hollti. It is the most magical of continents, stained with the blood of the absent protector Mydoedd and home to the Genasi. It's not somewhere Esfir likes or prefers to be, and yet she keeps ending up there anyway.

πŸ™“ GOGLEDD: The land of humans and the god Gwyr, Esfir spent a considerable amount of time in Gogledd on a series of missions related to her good friend Delwyn's past. Being around humans, however, did not teach her much of anything about them.

πŸ™“ ABEND: The continent on which Esfir has spent the least amount of time, Abend is home to the Forged and ruled by the god Wraig. Largely unexplored, Abend unsettles Esfir for feeling so much like her home and yet being so very different.
the college

After an unfortunate incident involving falling out of an airship, Esfir joined up with a band of adventurers. At the conclusion of their first mission together, The College recruited them to be a group of adventurers that could do various missions for The College. Despite starting at the bottom of the food chain, the group quickly became indispensible as a highly skilled group who spoke several languages not often seen in the areas The College operated in. This combined with their relative skill at diplomacy made them quite in demand.

The College itself is a magical, moving place that shifts as necesscary, powered by crystals in the lower levels containing energy. Where it's located changes frequently, but everyone who needs to find it will always be able to. For the most part, however, it's located on the continent of Kyur. It offers courses in several disciplines and boasts a full suite of facilities.

Within the Crystal College, Esfir runs a fantasy store resembling Lush that sells bath and body products created from her own personal recipes. She lives in a treehouse located in the middle of The College's greenhouse in exchange for her expertise in growing plants and apothecary. Also she gives free product to the people who work there and they simply... didn't stop her from living in the Life Tree in the center of the greenhouse. It reminds her of home!

⚜ FOURTHWALLING: It's fine to recognize Esfir or know things about her, if you feel like your character would! She is, after all, quite famous in her world. I would prefer any fourth-walling stays away from direct statement of being fictional, however.

⚜ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Sure! Esfir loves physical affection, under most circumstances. She might react poorly if she doesn't know the character well, however.

⚜ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: On an ooc level, it's fine. Esfir can take care of herself perfectly well! On an ic level, Esfir prefers to avoid physical confrontation wherever possible.

⚜ RELATIONSHIPS: Esfir's pretty exclusively into female-identifying folk! She's not terribly picky about species, unless you're a WaterSoul Genasi. Or otherwise water-aligned. She is not a fan of water.
